Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Deppy’s Care can support you in choosing the ideal place to live while getting the assistance you require.
What is Supported Independent Living?
A set of NDIS supports called “Supported Independent Living” aims to enable a person with a disability (who has SIL funding in their NDIS plan) to live as independently as possible in a shared living situation.
SIL support can assist you in developing your independence and discovering new skills at home. This support includes assistance with daily chores, personal care, or using public transportation. This support is available around the clock for people who need day-to-day assistance.
The level of assistance you require to live independently in a home shared with other NDIS participants will determine how much SIL funding is included in an NDIS plan.
Who is eligible for Supported Independent Living?
- SIL is best suited for NDIS participants with higher support needs, such as those who require overnight assistance, 24-hour care, one-on-one assistance from a support worker, or a significant amount of additional help throughout the day. For instance, going to the toilet, feeding, bathing, and meal preparation.
- Persons with disabilities who live alone or with a group of people in a shared house but require extreme support are eligible for SIL.
- The informal support offered by families, caregivers, networks, and the community must also be considered when determining eligibility criteria for SIL.
